The NUS-HCI lab went for a 4 days 3 nights lab retreat in Phuket, Thailand. The lab retreat is to redefine and redirect the purpose and activities of the lab.
The first and second day of the retreat were divided into 4 sessions. These sessions were presided by the lab’s Ph.D students as follows:
Session 1: Lab Management, Practices and Culture
Session 2: Planning and the Execution of Research Projects
Session 3: Core Competencies and Promoting the lab
Session 4: Lab in 2017, Tasks and Resource Planning
The sessions had several discussion points. For the sessions to be more effective, each of the lab members voted which of the discussion points are important. The session presider prioritized those points more. By the end of the session, action plans were made.
The third day of the retreat was for fun and bonding of the members. We went for an island tour in Phuket. This lab retreat made us know each other more outside the lab. Everyone had fun!
